Last June 2009, we had the opportunity to exhibit on the Makati Hope Christian School at Makati City. With the cooperation of the school principal and the school chief librarian, it was mutually agreed it will be a permanent exhibit, wherein the showcase exhibit and built models will be changed on a regular basis to provide continuous interests to school children.
Ingress was immediately slated a week after the start of the school year; one table, a dozen or so of scale models or different subjects and one giant smile on the school librarian and the Club.
Second month of the exhibit, the showcase though small, fits perfectly in the school library, kids of all ages including teachers, recess and dismissal time, sit around the display and take pictures and inspiring a new generation of scale modelers. The school librarian head also requested our exhibited models coincided with their school activity wherein applicable and possible; Dinosaurs were the first group of models which provided kids vis-à-vis interest as it was showcased in time for their Science Week, various themed exhibits are being organized to keep them busy and provide continued visual scale model interest and more visits to the library too.
Various scale models exhibited masterful and skilled works from fellow club members, armor, aircraft, figures, sci-fi, cars, and dioramas in action were displayed, a small write-up provided details and/or a mini-history on the model, explaining how the scale model came from an unbuilt box of parts to a built miniature replica. This exhibit also makes for more hits to the library in this time of internet research and computer gaming, the show will also put the hands of young and old alike to scale modeling instead of the various popular FPS computer games, more than skill building, scale modeling puts the kids’ eyes instead of flipping channels on the television to concentrating on some scale model hobby work, patience then becomes an integral part of the builder.
With continuously changing models, the club has tasked itself an endless supply of interest to these kids and a role model to the next generation of master builders, we are humbled to be given such a heart warming thought.
The Club would like to thank the school staff for the opportunity to showcase and outreach to the younger generation of scale modelers.
